Family Of Hit & Run Victim Wants Closure

Marianne Martinez
DALLAS (CBS 11 / TXA 21) ― The family of a man killed during a hit and run accident is pleading for help to find the person responsible.

It happened Friday morning near the intersection of Shady Brook and Northwest Highway in Dallas.  The accident happened as the victim, 38-year-old Andrew Janatsch was running to a bus stop.  He was supposed to be meeting Amy Channell, his fiancée, but never made it.  Now, she just wants answers.  "I love him with all my heart and I'd give anything to get him back."

Police say Janatsch was crossing the street when two cars struck him.  The second one stopped, the first did not.

Andrew's brother John just wants the truth to come out.  "I want the truth if it was an accident so be it be man or woman come to the police dept and say I hit this man I don't wan to see them locked up the rest of their life I will go to court with them through this I would be scared if I hit somebody."

Channell had talked with Janatsch minutes before the accident.  "Before he hung up, he said, 'Amy I love you and don't you forget it.' "

She says Janatsch had proposed to her a few weeks ago.  But, she didn't give him an answer right away.  "Friday when he was supposed to meet us, I was supposed to give him an answer.  And the answer was going to be yes.  He already gotten my ring and everything."

Now, friends and family are hoping anyone who saw anything will come forward, so they can have some closure.

There are signs at the intersection that say 'do not cross.'  Police say since it was dark out it is likely whoever hit Janatsch did not see him.  Because the driver failed to stop, they could face charges.
