Dallas Police Search For Hit & Run Driver
DALLAS (CBS 11 / TXA 21) ―
A Dallas mother and her two young children are recovering at the hospital after being hit by a car this afternoon.
The family was crossing Hampton Road about 2 o'clock when they were hit by a black Dodge Intrepid.
Police say the driver ran a red light and hit the family; which included a 2-year-old and a 4-year-old.
The mother was rushed to Parkland Hospital and her daughters were taken to Children's Medical Center. According to investigators, one of those children suffered series head injuries.
Driver familiar with the Hampton and Perryton intersection say they aren't surprised and that people speed through the area all the time.
"I look both ways. I'm scared there are people who don't pay attention," said Jessica Gomez, who lives in the area. "They [drivers] see us walk and they don't want to stop or let us go by."
Area crossing guard Alicia Armstrong said, "It's busy all the time. It's busy like this that's why I'm here to protect."
Unfortunately, the accident happened before Armstrong began her shift.
Police are looking for the driver of the black Dodge and are trying to find witnesses to the hit and run.
"The Intrepid fled southbound from this location without stopping and failed to render aid to the hurt children," explained Sgt. Sheldon Smith, with the Dallas Police Department. "Any information that you can provide with regards to any person that drives a black Intrepid that you feel may be involved, the Dallas Police Department would appreciate a call."
Anyone with information should call the Vehicle Crimes area of the Dallas Police Department at (214) 670-5818.
