9-Year-Old Dies In Benbrook Horse Riding Accident

BENBROOK (CBS 11 News) ―

A Haltom City girl died after being dragged by her horse.  The accident happened Saturday night at Dutch Branch Park in Benbrook.  Nine-year-old Juliette Brown had spent the day riding with her father.

Family friends say they were on their way back from a trail ride when the horse spooked.  Brown was airlifted to Cook Children's Hospital, where she died from head injuries.

"Our hearts are broken and we are all in shock.  We want to offer our prayers to the family," said Steve Thomson.  Thomson owns Benbrook Stables, where the family boards their horses.

Brown attended Smith Elementary School in Haltom City.  Family friends described her as a happy, bright girl.  She leaves behind her parents and six brothers and sisters.

Benbrook Stables is in the process of setting up a memorial fund at Wells Fargo Bank.
