FWPD Nets $3 Million In 'Ice'

Investigators Also Search Car Dealership

(CBS 11 News Exclusive) Fort Worth officials believe they have made the largest methamphetamine bust in Tarrant County history.

CBS 11 News was the only news organization to accompany undercover agents when they raided a southwest Fort Worth house about 3 a.m. Friday.

Authorities seized nearly 45 pounds of the street drug called "ice," which is high-grade methamphetamine. Police estimate the street value of these drugs to be more than $3 million.

Officers arrested Stephen Blevins, 57. They call Blevins, who has a criminal history and was on parole, a major supplier of "ice."

Fort Worth Police Department spokesman Lt. Dean Sullivan said the arrest and drug bust followed a traffic stop on Wednesday. During that stop, officers seized a small quantity of drugs. The suspect told officers Blevins had sold him the drugs. The officer then contacted the Fort Worth Police Department's narcotics division, Sullivan said.

Thursday night, narcotics officers arrested Blevins after a surveillance operation. Police say he was selling drugs at the time and was carrying four pounds of "ice."

Early Friday morning, they went to his house, where they seized an additional 44 pounds of "ice," ten pounds of marijuana, and thousands of dollars in cash.

Following the search at Blevins' house, police searched his used car dealership in west Fort Worth. They seized more than two dozen cars as evidence.

Sullivan said, "the dogs alerted on a number of these vehicles that are here--alerted being that they have or had contained narcotics."

Investigators believe the "ice" was manufactured outside the United States, probably in Mexico. Blevins' 37-year-old son, Kevin Blevins, is a federal fugitive. Detectives say they hope evidence seized during the raids will tie him to his father's drug operation.

Because of the size of the bust, the U.S. District Attorney's office will most likely prosecute it under federal laws.
