Irving Residents Forced Out Of Homes Getting Help

IRVING (CBS 11 News) ― Private companies are now stepping in to help hundreds of people forced from their apartments in Irving.

The entire Vista del Lago complex was condemned for being structurally dangerous. More than a 100 other heads of households must juggle finding new homes while holding onto their jobs.

Michael Bradford had been at Vista del Lago less than 30 days when it was shut down Friday.

"We're out about $1,000 from deposits and moving in," said Bradford.

Several apartments placed flyers at the hotel where displaced residents are staying. The locator service U Move Free moved its operation there, linking up needy renters with vacancies.

"We're going to help narrow down the list, send them to only properties that meet their requirements and have the ability to move them in right away," said Nick Barber, U Move Free Apartment Locators. "Hopefully, lower some of the stress, some of the burden, because they're not in the business of looking for apartments, and we are."

They'll also move new residents for free.

With a new work week looming as well as an unplanned move, people like Alfredo Navarro feel pressure to find something. He did -- just around the corner.

Emerald Point is one apartment complex willing to step in and fill the void. With 25 vacancies, people could begin moving in right away.

Many apartments are offering move-in specials for Vista del Lago evacuees.

"The company is offering a no deposit and no application fee for them to move over here now," said Gracie Rodriquez, Emerald Point manager.

While it is still an unplanned and painfully expensive event, the situation looks not as difficult as it did Friday.
