Jack Potashnik Receives Sentence For Tax Evasion

Reporting
Jack Fink
DALLAS (CBS 11 / TXA 21) ―
The father of indicted developer Brian Potashnik learned his fate Wednesday.
During sentencing in federal court this afternoon, Jack Potashnik learned he won't have to go to prison and received probation instead. He also has to pay a $3,000 fine on attempted tax evasion.
He broke down on the stand when talking to the judge. When he composed himself, he begged for mercy.
The judge went below the sentencing guidelines and didn't give him prison time because of his poor health. In court his attorney described him as a walking heart attack or stroke waiting to happen.
On his way out of court, all Potashnik could say was, "I'm glad I'm alive."
Brian and his wife Cheryl stand accused of bribing a number of local and state officials as part of the Dallas City Hall Scandal.
Brian and Cheryl Potashnik are accused of bribing former May Pro Tem Don Hill, former Dallas Plan Commissioner D'Angelo Lee and current State Representative Terri Hodge. The couple ran Southwest Housing and are accused of bribing local officials in exchange for their approval to build low income housing and the lucrative tax credits and fees that go along with them.
In March, the elder Potashnik pled guilty to tax evasion.
In May, former Dallas City Councilman James Fantroy chose to serve a 30-day prison term instead of making a public apology. His sentence began today at the federal prison in Fort Worth.
Fantroy was named in a separate indictment and was accused of embezzling money from Paul Quinn College. In late February, a jury took only 40 minutes to find him guilty of embezzlement.
