Family Honoring Slain Dallas Women With Fundraiser

DALLAS (CBS 11 / TXA 21) ― November 11 will mark the one-year anniversary of the deaths of Janice Carroll and her mother Jeanne Carroll.  The two women were murdered inside their Dallas home.  The gunman was Janice's husband, Keith Hill; he committed suicide.

"It was a horrific event that happened to our family," said Jennifer Carroll. "My mother and my sister were amazing women."

Now, the Carroll Family wants to honor Janice and Jeanne's lives with a special fundraiser called Janice's Kids.  The Carroll Family says Janice worked for Texas Child Protective Services and treated the children as her own.

"She wanted to save the world one child at a time.  That's what she wanted to do in life," Jennifer said.

The money raised at the fundraiser will go toward Community Partners of Dallas, a non-profit organization that provides children in CPS custody with new clothes, shoes and toys through their Rainbow Room program.

"They walk in and put on a new outfit and all of a sudden, they stand a little taller, feel a little prouder.  It really helps them to have something of their own when they're entering their new place," said Paige McDaniel, the CEO of Community Partners of Dallas.

The Rainbow Room program serves about 8,000 Dallas County children each year.

The Carroll family says helping those in need is a way for remembering two women who touched so many lives.

"It's [Janice's] dream and even though she's not here, she leaves us with the desire and passion to carry out what she started," Jennifer said.

The Janice's Kids fundraiser will take place Wednesday, November 11 at Snuffer's Restaurant in Rockwall, located at 2901 Rockwall Village.  It starts at 11 a.m. and will go on all day.
