UT Student From Plano Dies In Fall From Cab

KYLE (CBS 11 / TXA 21) ― Police in Central Texas are investigating the death of a University of Texas student who fell or jumped out of a cab on I-35 Saturday morning.

Jeffrey Weng was a native of Plano.  The 19-year-old was a music major at UT.

According to reports, friends say Weng and another man got into a cab in Austin early Saturday in downtown Austin.  They were apparently on their way to San Marcos.

Police in the town of Kyle say according to the cabbie, one of the passengers jumped out of the back seat while the taxi was going at least 60 MPH.

Weng died of head injuries Sunday at an Austin hospital.
Police say the cabbie called 911, but then took the other passenger to San Marcos before he returned to the scene of the accident to talk to investigators.

Kyle Police are still looking for the second passenger.  They say they have not ruled out foul play.
Friends of Weng's have organized several memorial groups and two candlelight vigils through Facebook.  Wednesday afternoon, more than 700 people had joined the memorial groups.

One candlelight vigil is scheduled for Friday, February 20 at 10 p.m. at the Plano Senior High School pond.  The other will be held in Austin.
