Jewish Facilities May Need Extra Security
DPD Crime Bulletin Lists 40 Facilities That Could Be Targets
DALLAS (CBS 11 / TXA 21) ―
Dozens of people gathered at a Dallas temple Thursday night for a series of events celebrating the 60th anniversary of Israel.
The celebration comes at a time of conflict in the Middle Eastern country and there are concerns that the war in Gaza could indirectly spread here.
A Dallas Police crime bulletin obtained by CBS 11 News warns of suspicious activities at Jewish facilities around the country.
With "reports from other cities of possible surveillance and photography of Jewish facilities," the bulletin lists nearly 40 Jewish schools, synagogues and service centers in Dallas.
Jim Rosenbloom admits it's unnerving.
"Any kind of threat to Jewish people in Dallas is pretty irrational because we're not involved in the fighting," the Dallas resident said.
Among those facilities on the list are the Dallas Holocaust Museum and Temple Emanu-el, where security has always been top priority.
The head of the local Anti-Defamation League says the risk of an attack in North Texas would be from a single person more than an organized group.
"Kind of a lone wolf individual who might take it upon themselves to do something and that's always something we're very concerned about," Mark Briskman says.
Officers have been told to be "vigilant to suspicious activity," but so far we're told there haven't been any specific threats in North Texas.
