13-Year-Old Drowns In Joe Pool Lake
GRAND PRAIRIE (CBS 11 News) ―
She wanted to be a singer. She wanted to audition for the Disney Channel
that was her big dream. She was full life."
The exhausted and stunned family of Shannon Allcock can't believe the light of their life is gone.
The 13-year old moved to America with her father a couple of years ago. She immersed herself in American pop culture like Hannah Montana and in their religion.
"She loved God. I mean, yesterday before we went to the lake she made a bracelet for her doll that said "God" on it and gave her earrings," her mother, Bridgette Allcock, said Saturday.
Before the family headed to Joe Pool Lake on July 4, Shannon Allcock removed a cross she wore around her neck and the next day, her sister clutched it as the family mourned the teen's death.
She disappeared under the water while the family was swimming. No one is quite sure what happened, but her family knows the crushing loss they've suffered.
"You can't believe someone you take care of your whole life and then they're gone," her father Gavin, grieved. "And, then you have to wake up and call other family and upset them, too."
"I would rather it be me than her. She had her own life ahead of her. She was so beautiful. The light inside of her shinned.
She would share that with everyone around her."
