Officials: Juvenile Arrest Warrants On The Rise

DALLAS (CBS 11 News) ― Investigators with the Dallas County Sheriff's Department say they've seen a rise in the number of juvenile arrest warrants.

"You can go from the spectrum of truancy all the way to robbery or aggravated assault," said Investigator Stacy Franklin.

They also say the offenders are getting younger. Recently, they took a 10-year-old boy into custody for burglary.

CBS 11 crews went on a ride along with investigators responsible for serving warrants to minors.

Investigators arrested a teenage girl for truancy and an 18-year-old man accused of sexually assaulting a child when he was a minor himself.

Investigators say working with minors can be rewarding, but also dangerous and unpredictable.

"We can also do some good by working on the intervention," Franklin said. "Sometimes, kids are not thinking, not being rational. They just do the first thing that comes to our mind, which makes it extra difficult for us because we have to execute the warrant and safeguard the child."
