Aggressive Landmen Vying For Keller Mineral Rights
KELLER (CBS 11 / TXA 21) ―
Landmen vying for mineral rights have descended upon the City of Keller.
Some residents in a neighborhood near Pearson and Hickory Hollow say they are annoyed with the one-on-one encounters with some of the landmen.
"A man got out and stomped up to the window, and I was on the phone with my friend," said Melanie, who did not want to use her last name. "I'm in my driver's seat of my vehicle, and he's standing there [shaking a piece of paper]."
Her neighbor, Karrie Pearson, also had a run in with a landman.
"A couple of hours later, he shows up ringing the doorbell. I don't know who this guy is," she said.
The women say they have also received phone calls.
"They're getting kind of aggressive, and it's starting to freak me out," Pearson said.
The landman leaves phone messages offering to help homeowners, but it's the kind of help neighbors say they can do without.
"He came again two days later, and he still didn't have a permit. So my husband called the police," said Leslie Bacak.
CBS 11 called the landman, who referred us to his boss.
"I apologize," said Matt Landry. "Doyle Land Services doesn't -- We're all professionals."
Landowner Randy Phillips said he thinks the landman isn't playing by the books. "He's rubbing a lot of people the wrong way," he said.
"If that's the issue, he won't be with us very long at all," Landry said.
But time has become the issue in the fight for mineral rights.
"They're aggressive, and he's wanting to close the deal fast," Phillips said.
Mineral rights in Keller are going for $5,500 an acre now. It was only $500 a year ago.
Anyone who thinks they have been mistreated should call their company and let them know.
