Korean Vendors' Fears Rise As Crime Increases
DALLAS (CBS 11 / TXA 21) ―
Many Big "T" Plaza vendors are Korean and they say they're being targeted after they leave work.
"Our family can't sleep at night," said a woman who didn't want to be identified.
She is one of up to a dozen vendors who hide their identifies but do want people -- especially police -- to understand their fear.
The woman said her her father already has broken up two attempted burglaries.
Another man's 70-year-old mother was tied up during a recent home invasion that CBS 11 reported last week.
In another home invasion, children were reportedly held a gun point. One was a 3-year-old.
"They have masks on, they have gloves ... they know what they're doing," Big T manager Keith Song said. "They have so much information, we don't know if they're following them home or targeting these people."
Song added Korean businesses are organizing to fight the threat and are offering a $10,000 reward for information that leads to the arrest and indicment of the robbers.
Song organized a meeting with concerned Koreans and about half-a-dozen local police agencies this week.
The bandits reporedly use several cars in their crimes and at least one vehicle has a phony license plate.
