Lewisville Businesses Hot After A/C Thefts
LEWISVILLE (CBS 11 / TXA 21) ―
During one of the hottest weeks of the year, some Lewisville businesses had an essential piece of equipment stolen: their air conditioning units.
"It was probably 94 degrees inside our office for the rest of the day," said Bob Gaines, whose air conditioner was stolen from his business, Mak-Redy Flooring Services.
Surveillance video provided by Mak-Redy shows the entire crime. A pick-up truck pulled into the parking lot Tuesday morning. One man cut the lines, and then another helped him load the entire AC unit onto the bed.
"We caught them pretty quick this time," said Lewisville Police Capt. Kevin Deaver.
Deaver says the surveillance video helped police track down the thieves. Thursday morning, a patrol officer saw the same truck with two AC units in the bed.
"It's kind of easy to spot when you're travelling down the road," Deaver said.
Police arrested Thomas Pope and Brady Tucker. They face charges of felony theft.
And police say the men could be responsible for at least three other thefts of AC units in the Old Town area of Lewisville.
Meanwhile, Gaines says he hopes other thieves see his surveillance camera and think twice before stealing.
"Go get a real job," Gaines said. "Quit taking advantage of other people's property."
Lewisville Police say they're accustomed to seeing thieves steal parts of the AC unit; this is the first time they've seen thieves steal entire units.
