Police Seize 50 Dogs & Cats From House
AZLE (CBS 11 News) ―
Police in Pelican Bay
(click here for map) are investigating the discovery of 50 dogs and cats at an Azle house.
Pelican Bay Police Chief Eddie Frankum told CBS11 News that the house belongs to Delores Knight, who is a Code Enforcement and Animal Control Officer for Pelican Bay. Frankum told us Knight seized a dog belonging to a resident of Pelican Bay. He said that when the resident went to Animal Control to retrieve his dog, Knight refused to give it to the man.
Frankum said the resident filed a complaint with the city, and the Police Department started an investigation. Frankum says police learned that Knight had sold the dog, and police asked her to turn over the city paperwork she should have completed regarding the seizure of the dog.
Frankum said Knight refused, so police got a warrant to search her house in Azle. When police got to the Azle house on Thursday, Frankum said they found about 50 dogs and cats. Chief Frankum also said police found drugs for euthanizing animals that had been purchased by the City of Pelican Bay.
Chief Frankum said most of the animals found at the house are in poor condition, and he thinks most will have to be euthanized. All the animals are currently in the custody of Parker County's Animal Control department.
Knight is facing several charges, including theft by a public servant.
