Large Mouse Statue Stolen From Fort Worth Family
FORT WORTH (CBS 11 / TXA 21) ―
It graced their front porch for more than 13 years. Now a North Texas family is grieving after someone stole the six-foot wooden mouse from their front yard.
"Mama Mouse was stolen last night while I was out walking the dogs," said Sam Moody, the owner of the statue. "She's one of a kind. She couldn't be replaced. But even more so, there is a very deep emotional attachment to her."
The 100-pound statue was a tribute to Moody's mother-in-law. Her nickname was "Mama Mouse." When she passed away of cancer in 1992, the family had a Beatrice Potter look-a-like made in her honor.
Last year, when the family moved to North Texas from Washington State, they brought "Mama Mouse" with them. They put her on the front porch where she continued watching over them.
"When we got her made, we just brought her out to the property and she's just always stood guard over our household," said Moody.
The statue disappeared around 8:30 p.m. Tuesday.
"It's like losing my mother-in-law all over again. For my husband, it's going to be like losing his mom all over again. She was the world to him. She was a fabulous person," she said.
Moody's heart aches when she looks at the spot where Mama Mouse used to stand. She and her family have been passing out fliers in northwest Fort Worth, praying some one will help them get their mouse back.
If anyone has any information about the statue, they are asked to call the Fort Worth Police Department.
