Wilkinson Case Getting National Audience
Melissa Newton
NORTH RICHLAND HILLS (CBS 11 / TXA 21) ―
An unsolved North Texas murder will be featured Saturday on a popular TV show.
'America's Most Wanted' will take a look at the Marianne Wilkinson case.
Wilkinson was murdered nearly two years ago, on December 9, 2007.
She and her husband of 46 years were at home when the doorbell rang.
The 68-year-old woman went to answer it, and that's when she was shot multiple times, according to police.
The shooter took off and remains on the loose. As time goes by, police say the case becomes more difficult to solve.
Detectives recovered the murder weapon on Easter Sunday, 2008. They tracked down the first two original owners, both of whom have already died. Investigators believe the gun has changed hands several times since then, and hope the show can help them learn more about the handgun's history.
They've also been able to lift a partial fingerprint from a shell casing, using the most advanced technology.
Despite the leads, police have not been able to come up with a suspect.
"What we're hoping is that somebody will see the 'America's Most Wanted' and they'll remember someone saying something or seeing something," Lt. Billy Privett with the North Richland Hills Police said. "That may be able to point us in the right direction we need to go to close this."
The Wilkinson family is also holding out hope, that someday the killer will be caught.
"You cannot make rational sense out of something so evil and so irrational," said Wilkinson's son, Mike. "I think if someone is capable of walking up to a door and shooting someone they don't know, if they've done this once, they can do this again."
The 'America's Most Wanted' episode will air Saturday. Since the show's inception, it has helped put 1093 criminals behind bars.
