DPD Finds 3rd Field Of Marijuana In 3 Weeks
by Brooke Richie
DALLAS (CBS 11 News) ―
For the third time in as many weeks, Dallas police have discovered a large area filled with marijuana plants.
Officers made the discovery in a police helicopter when they flew over a field near I-20 and Spur 408 in southwest Dallas.
Drug Enforcement Agency and Dallas Police Officers say they've become more aggressive in their search to spot pot. This time it was from the air and it wasn't an easy find.
The terrain around the plants is tough, say police. The plants were tucked beneath canopies of bushes and trees, deep in a valley.
Police say there may be as many pot plants as in a July 21 bust in Grand Prairie near Beltline Road and Camp Wisdom. Police say they will investigate whether the two are related.
On July 12, a pot farm was found near DEA headquarters along the Trinity River in Dallas.
At that location, authorities confiscated 325 plants from seven plots.
Police say they won't know how much pot is in the location they found Sunday until they dig the plants up by hand Monday.
The plants are in an area hidden beneath canopies of trees and bushes.
Police say removing them will be difficult.
A Dallas police officer suffered chest pains while searching the area. Police say he was taken to Baylor Medical Center after suffering either heat exhaustion, heat stroke or a heart attack. He is expected to recover.
Police officers remained near the field overnight to guard the area.
Monday, police say they will begin their investigation to determine who owns the marijuana plants.
