Missing Serval Found In Collin County

Missing Pet Was More Than Just Run-Of-The-Mill Cat

LUCAS (CBS 11 / TXA 21) ― A pet wildcat missing from its Collin County home has been found safe.

Collin County officials alerted members of the media Friday afternoon that theexotic cat was missing from a rural Eastern Collin County home.

The cat, a serval, is a medium-sized African wild cat that's described as looking like a small cheetah with large ears.

The cat had last been seen in the area of Aztec Trail and Parker Road near the St. Paul/Lucas area of the county.

On Monday afternoon, the cat was spotted less than a mile away from its home.  It was captured and taken to a local veterinarian to be checked out.

County officials say the cat is a pet and was never a public safety concern.  The cat is neutered and declawed and suffers from a heart condition.

The state licenses some exotic animals, like this serval, to be in homes provided the owners follow inspections and state guidelines.
