Homeowners In Fight Over Social Security Cards

GRAND PRAIRIE (CBS 11 / TXA 21) ―
Tensions are high at a North Texas mobile home park.
Some residents say they are fed up by their property owners association demanding social security numbers so they can check on potential buyer's immigrations status.
Wednesday night there was a private meeting between property owners and the board at the San Grande Mobile Home Park in Grand Prairie.
"Used to be real nice living here we never had problems," says Victor Chevez, who has lived at the mobile home park for 11 years.
Chevez says no one ever from the board wanted to know where he's from, but now it's different.
He says the property owners association is demanding social security numbers from people interested in living there.
"They have been trying to do the INS job which they are not supposed to," says Chevez.
Dalton Ford also lives at the mobile home park. He says he's tried to sell two of his lots, but potential buyers have run into problems.
"They have to have a social security card husband and wife," says Ford "That's sometimes hard for people."
Reta McVicker, the president of the property owners board, says proof of residency is required of everyone.
She emphasized that if anyone is interested in buying property they should check the associations' rules.
A spokesperson with the city of Grand Prairie says they are not getting involved because this is a private issue.
We did try to reach the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development to check who the board can and can't allow to live on the property, and are waiting for a response.
