More Mutilated Cats Discovered In San Antonio Area
SAN ANTONIO (AP) ―
Another mutilated cat was found in San Antonio, this one cut with a "scalpel-like" instrument.
The cat was discovered Wednesday. It is the 11th incident in three weeks in which a feline was found mutilated or killed in the San Antonio area.
In response to the killings and maimings, the city's animal control department has added two investigators. Organizations such as the Animal Defense League and the Humane Society have offered rewards for tips that lead to the arrest of those responsible.
The cat found Wednesday came just hours after a separate incident in which a police officer saw a man "perform an underhand throw of the kitten" off an interstate overpass. That's according to a police report. The black-and-white kitten fell 20 feet down into the middle lane of traffic and died.
A 26-year-old man was arrested and charged with animal cruelty and resisting arrest. The man told police the kitten jumped from his arms.
Last month, a 19-year-old man was charged with three counts of cruelty to animals after three gray tabby cats were found slashed and duct-taped to a piece of plywood with fishing line tied around their necks. Their bodies were arranged in a triangle. Police say one was disemboweled and at least two had their throats slit.
