2 Suspects Arrested For Shooting At NorthPark

Police in Dallas have arrested two suspects in the NorthPark Shopping Center shooting case.

Demond Stuard, 18, is accused of shooting Mary Boyd as she sat in the NorthPark parking lot. Anton Wallace, 22, is accused of driving the getaway car.

U.S. Marshals said that they arrested the two without incident at a far east Dallas house. They have both been charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. Bond has not been set.

"Tips through the Crime Stoppers hotline lead to the arrest of two suspects believed to be responsible for the shooting of Mrs. Mary Boyd," said Senior Corporal Janice M. Crowther in a press release.

According to a police affidavit the suspects told a friend they had gone to NorthPark to rob someone when they spotted Boyd.

Stuard allegedly tried to open the driver-side door but found that it was locked. It was then he said he saw Boyd look down and to the right and feared that she was searching for a gun, so he shot her in the face and 'took off'.

The friend says Wallace called him after the shooting and said, 'Yeah man, we had to do it. We needed to get some money.'

Dallas police say they are relieved to apparently have closed the case. "Here's a woman sitting in her truck, waiting for her daughter to come out from a movie. Out of nowhere, subject comes up, she recognizes danger, and he shoots her in the face. That's cold-hearted," explained Lt. Sally Lannom. "So obviously we are very pleased to get them off the street."

As the gunmen got away Boyd was able to drive to a valet stand for help.

The 43-year-old mother continues to recover from her injuries and last month had reconstructive surgery on her face. Only two small scars under her eyes will remain as evidence of where the bullet passed through her head.
