Aircraft Collide On Denton County Runway

NORTHLAKE, Texas (CBS 11 / TXA 21) ― Two single-engine planes collided on the ground at the Northwest Regional Airport. The airport is located in the Denton County town of Northlake.

The accident happened about 2:45 p.m. Thursday.

Jim Austen was in a Piper Stinson waiting to take off when a beige Piper Cherokee landed on top of it. The Piper Cherokee has low-fixed wings and had to fly over some trees. They didn't see the other plane until it was too late.

In the Piper Cherokee were an instructor pilot and his student, a woman who looked to be in her 50s. The instructor had the controls at the time of the accident, he said.

The planes were separated with a rotating crane. They'll be placed in hangers for the FAA to inspect.

The pilots of both planes appeared to be very shaken and not ready to talk about their experience. They walked away without any injuries.
