NRH Man Says Fake Cop Robbed Him

RICHLAND HILLS (AP) ― A 21-year-old North Texas motorist is the latest victim in a string of robberies by fake traffic cops in the Dallas-Fort Worth area.

James Mosley was driving just blocks from his North Richland Hills home early yesterday when he saw flashing red-and-blue lights behind him in the neighboring Fort Worth suburb of Richland Hills

He immediately pulled over, assuming it was a routine traffic stop. A man who looked liked a plainclothes police officer emerged from a car and asked for Mosley's driver's license.

Mosley realized the situation wasn't routine when the man grabbed for Mosley's wallet. Police say the two scuffled and the imposter escaped with about $50.

Mosley is one of a growing number of North Texas motorists pulled over this year by those impersonating a police officer.

The unmarked car the imposter fled in was a white Chevrolet Caprice station wagon with flashing lights on the dashboard, Childress said. Police say the car's Texas license plates included "TW2" in the center of its series of numbers.
