Flags at Dallas Police Headquarters are at half staff in honor of the fallen officer who was killed when his motorcycle crashed Friday while escorting the Hillary Clinton motorcade to a campaign rally.
Friends and co-workers of Sr. Cpl. Victor Lozada, a 20-year veteran of the department, are reflecting on his life and work with the department.
Officer Robert Garcia was sent to the Houston Street via duct this morning for a deadly accident unaware the victim was his best friend.
Their relationship goes back 20 years. They were partners at Central Patrol and known for the Police Low Rider campaign to discourage juvenile crime.
Garcia says Losada always looked out for crime victims after other officers would move on. The 49-year-old wanted to be a motorcycle officer and a few weeks ago got his wish.
On Friday, officers in the motorcade gathered in a moving display of unity outside Methodist Hospital while department officials spoke about the valiant patrolman who wore a smile each day.
Losada's best friend can only think about the devoted father of four.
As the city and nation learned about Lozada's death his dedication to helping others stretched well into the community, including serving as a coach for his 10-year-old son's soccer team.
He coached his son and his teammates three times a week. Many said Lozada loved his players, and they loved him.
The Daffron Dragons will say a short prayer in Lozada's honor before their game on Saturday.
