Former Dallas Councilman James Fantroy Out Of Jail

DALLAS (CBS 11 News) ― Former Dallas City Councilman James Fantroy is once again a free man. His attorney says family members picked him up from the federal prison in Fort Worth Wednesday morning.

Fantroy said he feels great to be out of prison, where he had been living with four other men.

During his prison sentence, Fantroy lived in the assisted living quarters. Fantroy has kidney cancer and needs dialysis three times a week. He said the medical care in prison was great and he was "treated very well."

At the end of June, Fantroy started his 30 day sentence for embezzling $20,000 from Paul Quinn College. When he was sentenced originally, a judge gave him a choice to go to prison or admit publicly that he stole the money; he chose prison.

"I feel like I was right in every decision I made," he said. "I have no regrets. I had a choice and this is the best decision for me."
