Parker County Teen Bitten By Rabid Fox

PARKER COUNTY (CBS 11 News) ―
A Parker County teenager is recovering from rabies after being bitten by a fox.
The attack happened in Whitt, about thirty miles northwest of Fort Worth.
Jack Hunter, 16, was riding his moped in a field near his house last week when he says a fox jumped out of the weeds and bit him on the calf.
"Right when it bit me, it jumped up, and it grabbed my shorts," said Jack. He said he could tell right away it was rabid.
Animal control officials say foxes are nocturnal, so if you encounter one during the day, there's likely something wrong with it.
"It was breathing weird, and I was just trying to get it off me," he said.
After Jack fought off the fox, he choked it death.
"I couldn't believe I killed a fox, something that was rabid," he said.
Jack has started his series of five shots to treat rabies. His mother, Marcy Hunter, says he'll have to find somewhere else to ride his moped.
"He's not allowed in the field anymore," said Marcy. "I called and warned all my friends, and their kids aren't allowed in the fields."
Jack says he agrees.
"I'll just ride it up and down the road," he said. "I don't want to be attacked by another one."
