Gunman Targeting Denton County Pharmacies

FLOWER MOUND (CBS 11 News) ―

A gunman is targeting pharmacies in Denton County and police are worried that his robberies are getting more frequent and more desperate.

The gunman has hit four local drug stores in Lewisville, Highland Village and Flower Mound. The latest robbery happened Thursday night.

The robber isn't demanding cash; he wants narcotics, especially Oxycontin.  The threat has become so great one Flower Mound pharmacy has a sign posted that clearly reads it no longer carries the drug.

Surveillance video shows the man dressed in a heavy jacket; despite 100-degree heat. He generally even comes with his own bag to carry off the drugs that his note demands.

Thursday night he robbed a Flower Mound Walgreen's. Two weeks ago he hit another Walgreen's store in Highland Village.

In both cases the dress is virtually identical and the modus operandi all too familiar to Dennis Song and his customers. Song was on duty back in March when a fellow pharmacist brought him the robbers note.

"I knew the minute she handed me the note that something was wrong," he explained. "And so we read the note very quickly and then we proceeded to the narcotic cabinet and pretty much emptied it out."

Song says the scariest part was that, between customers and store employees there were nearly a dozen people in the store when the robbery went down.

"Whenever he was here, he was very calm. He was very focused. In fact, he stared at one of my technicians just to see if she would call 911," Song said.

Police say the attacks are well planned. Twice officials have gotten the license plate number off the robber's getaway car. Both times the tags were stolen.

Now the robberies are becoming more frequent. The most recent robbery was only 14 days from his previous robbery.

Brazen is certainly one way to describe the robber. Thursday night's robbery happened directly across the street from the Flower Mound Police Department.
