PLANO (CBS 11 / TXA 21) ―
A 16-year-old boy died after collapsing while working out at a Plano high school.
Zachary Schrah collapsed Thursday night while working out at Plano East Senior High School.
Plano firefighters say a coach and trainer were performing CPR on the 10th grader, who attended Clark High School in Plano. They also used a defibrillator on him.
Paramedics continued to perform CPR on Zachary while they were en route to Medical Center of Plano. The boy died at the hospital.
His grandfather, Terry Granger, said Zachary loved to fish and that he was more like a son than a grandson to him.
School officials at Clark High said counselors would be available to give support as needed to our students.
"If you need help in talking to your teenager about death and dying, you may contact the Clark counselors," the administration wrote in a letter to parents.
"We know that this death may bring to teenagers' minds the thoughts of past losses. For the most part, teenagers need to have an opportunity to be heard and be able to express their emotions," the note continued.
A memorial service was held for Zachary at the school Friday morning.
A cause of death has not been released.
Funeral services are pending.
