Plano Standoff Ends Without Injuries

A 12-hour standoff with an armed 19-year-old in Plano ended with no injuries overnight.

Police said they are relieved no one was hurt or killed during the standoff with the man at a house near Preston and Legacy Drive. He even fired shots at them, before the situation finally ended.

Brandon Marlowe Hofer argued with his mother and then threatened to kill himself before barricading himself inside the house, police said.

"We knew the individual was possibly armed and this confirmed all of our thoughts that he did have a handgun in that residence and we knew how dangerous that could be.  Our biggest intention was to bring this situation into a safe closure, with him being safe, and he's in custody now, and we're very happy about that," explained Rick McDonald with the Plano Police Department.

Hofer fired three shots at the officers about 3 p.m. and then another two five hours later. The officers did not return fire, they said.

A DPS helicopter at the scene equipped with thermal imaging helped officers on the ground keep track of the 19-year-old after they fired 15 canisters of tear gas into the house.

Hofer was taken to a hospital for evaluation. He has been charged with aggravated assault.
