'Quad' Births Make North Texas History
NORTH TEXAS (CBS 11 / TXA 21) ―
The birth of a baby is always a special occasion, ask any parent. But one North Texas family is making hospital history at Cook Children's Medical Center.
It was a 'times four' special delivery in Fort Worth. "I've never ever seen quads the whole time I've been here," said Nurse Jessica Scott.
Tina McLean and her husband where hoping for a beautiful baby. "We only expected one," she said. But the family got four babies!
McLean gave part of the birth order. "The first one was Ricky, then was Heath, then was Steven, then was Leah."
Born August 18th, the babies were 14 weeks premature. Each one of them weighed between one and two pounds. After delivery at Harris Methodist Hospital in Fort Worth, the babies were transferred to Cook Children's' Medical Center.
"[The] biggest concern at that point was ventilation," said Cook Children's Neonatal Dr. Victor Levy said.
Every day for the last month McLean has come to the NICU to spend time with her babies. The mother says she spreads her love evenly with Leah and her three brothers. "When I finally got to hold them, that was one of the best days ever," she said.
One of the boys is even named Steven Tyler, after a member of a legendary band. "You can credit my sister to helping with that," McLean said laughing. "We're both Aerosmith fans!"
Now that the duo, times two, is doing so well the hope is that they will make their homecoming debut, in their hometown of Hico, around Thanksgiving.
