Study: South Dallas' Quality Of Life Improving

DALLAS (CBS 11 / TXA 21) ― According to a study by the University of Texas at Dallas, South Dallas is changing. Slowly, the quality of life is becoming like the rest of the city.

The study looks at 12 different indicators -- crime, voters turn out, graduation rates, poverty, homeownership, wealth -- the point is to see how neighborhoods within Dallas compare to one another

"It doesn't say that every neighborhood has to have a Nordstrom's, but every neighborhood should have an equal opportunity to buy groceries, to buy drugs, to buy clothing without having to trek across town," said Dr. Tim Bray, University of Texas at Dallas.

The study measures how similar neighborhoods across the city are doing. A score of 100 means all neighborhoods are exactly the same. A score of 80 -- means neighborhoods in dallas are pretty similar.

In 2006, Dallas got a 65. In 2007, they received a score of 66. This year it's expected to go up again.

The full report will be released tomorrow.
