Racist Campaign Flyers Circulating In Dallas

DALLAS (CBS 11 / TXA 21) ―
Racist campaign flyers are circulating around some Dallas neighborhoods. While the flyers say that candidates for Dallas City Council District 7 paid for them, the candidates claim they didn't and they don't know who is responsible.
The fraudulent flyers claim to be from two District 7 candidates - incumbent Carolyn Davis and Ron Parish.
The flyers were left on people's doors this weekend and now the candidates say they're outraged. "I was very irate to know someone would stoop to this level," Parish said.
Both Davis and Parish deny any involvement with the flyers. "To get in this type of racial attack is totally unacceptable and wrong," said Davis.
One flyer, that claims to be paid for by the Don Parish campaign, quotes his opponent, Davis, as saying, "I will never vote to name a street after that Mexican, Cesar Chavez." Another flyer, that claims to be paid for by Davis' campaign, quotes Parish as saying, "The problem in District 7 is that the whites in the eastern part of the district receive all the money."
Both candidates say these types of 'dirty politics' take away from the issues. "It's negative. It's insulting and I think whoever is doing this needs to be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law," Parish said adamantly.
Davis said she's in the process of writing a letter of complaint to the Texas Ethics Commission. "It's dirty politics and to get into the 'race card' is extremely wrong."
Voters who spoke to CBS 11 News said while the ads are wrong, they don't influence their decisions. "I'm just sticking with the issues," said District 7 voter Jeri Lowe. "You basically have to. If you start listening to that garbage, it pauses the way you think or even vote."
Both Davis and Parish say it's possible the same person, or group, could be responsible for the two flyers, since the style and quality are similar.
