Rain Brings Flash Flooding To Outlying Areas

FORT WORTH (CBS 11 / TXA 21) ― There is still some heavy rain south and east of the DFW area. The heaviest of the rain is slowly shifting to the east, away from those areas that saw the heaviest rain Tuesday morning. The most rain fell from Hill County through Ellis County in Kaufman County, Rains County and Van Zandt County.

Flooding closed many roads in our southern counties today.  Ellis County provided this list of their roads that were still closed as of 2 p.m. (.pdf format).

Below is a map showing the Doppler radar rainfall estimates. The light green represents 1.5 inches of rain and the darker green represents 3 inches of rain. You can see one heavy rainfall area from Hillsboro to Waxahachie and then from Terrell to Emory to Sulphur Springs.

The heavy rain that we see on the radar now is a little east of where this heavy rain fell earlier. So, the creeks and streams are going down some as the heavy rain moves away. From Corsicana to Athens to Tyler, 1 to 3 inches of additional rain will be possible with localized flooding still possible in these areas.

The Metroplex escaped the flooding rains, but light rain will continue to fall through Tuesday afternoon. Temperatures will stay in the upper 60s for the rest of the day.

The Flash Flood Watch continues until 9 p.m. for Dallas County, Collin County and counties to the east. I would be surprised if this is valid until 9 p.m. It will likely be canceled, or at least Dallas and Collin will be taken out of the watch before 9 p.m.
