Rain Needed, But Causes Problems On Roadways

NORTH TEXAS (CBS 11 / TXA 21) ― Most North Texans would agree that rain is needed in the area. But for some folks, the rain started their work week off on the wrong foot Monday.

From water logged commuters, to smashed up cars, the rain caused lots of headaches.

Local drivers have been dealing with the slick conditions throughout the day.

Along Loop 12 near Spur 408, in Dallas, the rain was a factor in an accident involving a University of North Texas patrol officer.

According to witnesses, the female officer saw a car hydroplane in front her and when she stopped to help was struck from behind by a pickup truck.

The officer was transported to Methodist Central Hospital with minor injuries. No one else in that accident was seriously injured.

Another accident just south of Texas Stadium in Irving, shut down the northbound service road of Loop 12 near Highway 183. A white-colored vehicle there struck an 18-wheeler, spun out of control, and came to rest in a ditch. Two people inside the car were taken to a local hospital by ambulance.

"I just saw the car skidding out and said what the h--- and by the time I said that, the car was already in the ditch," witness Prayash Bastola explained.

The 18-wheeler belongs to MEGA Gulf Coast Lines, Inc., out of Grand Prairie. News crews at the scene say the driver of the big rig didn't appear to be injured.

In Fort Worth, a jackknifed tractor-trailer stalled traffic on a ramp leading from eastbound North Loop 820 to northbound Interstate-35W. The only vehicle involved in the crash was the tractor-trailer, which reportedly hit a guardrail.

Police continue all the accidents and say they are preparing to deal with more, as rain continues to fall.
