Perry's Office Receives Suspicious Envelope

AUSTIN (AP / CBS 11 NEWS) ― The governor of Texas has become the latest in a string of state chief executives who have received suspicious packages in the mail.

Gov. Rick Perry's staff said they received an envelope Wednesday.

Perry spokeswoman Katherine Cesinger says emergency officials were contacted.

A spokesman for the Texas Department of Public Safety did not immediately return calls seeking comment and it was not clear if the Texas letter contained any powder.

Envelopes contained suspicious powder have been received this week by governor's offices in Alabama, Alaska, Maine, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana and Rhode Island.

All the previous envelopes were postmarked in Dallas.  It's not yet known if the envelope Perry's office received was also sent from Dallas.

Officials in some of those states said the powder was flour or some other harmless food substance.
