Road Rage Victim Says He Learned Lesson

Marianne Martinez
DALLAS (CBS 11 / TXA 21) ― A Dallas man says he is lucky to be alive after getting shot at during a road rage incident. It happened early Sunday morning at Central Expressway and Royal Lane.

The man who was shot at admits he made an obscene hang gesture. But he never thought that would lead to gunfire.

"You can see the bullet hole here."  Jeff, who did not want to give CBS 11 his last name, says it started with a traffic tie-up near Central and Walnut Hill.  A pick up truck started following too closely and then pulled up next to him.  Jeff made an obscene hand gesture.  "That's when the passenger opened fire on me."

One of the bullets hit the rear passenger door.  The other one hit below the driver side window, missing Jeff by just a few inches.  "That's really close. They were aiming for me."

The bullet shattered the glass, but Jeff wasn't hurt and able to continue driving.

Hours after the shooting Jeff said he's been able to reflect on what happened.  "I feel blessed and there's a reason for me to be here.  I could have been dead."

And Jeff says no matter how frustrated he gets on the road, he'll never show it.  "There will be a next time. People will have road rage, follow too close, flip you the finger. You just need to let go. Life is too important."

Jeff described the vehicle as an extended cab pick-up truck, navy in color, with temporary Louisiana plates.
