Trial Starts For Accused Dallas Child Killer

DALLAS (CBS 11 / TXA 21) ― A Dallas man who admitted to CBS 11 News that he killed his wife and two children is on trial for his own life today.

Robert Sparks is charged with three counts of capital murder in the deaths of Charee Agnew and her young sons, Raequon Agnew and Harold Sublet, Jr.  They were stabbed to death in their Dallas home in September, 2007.

Sparks' trial started today in Dallas.

CBS 11 News interviewed Sparks shortly after his arrest.  He confessed to the murders, and prosecutors are using the tape of that interview in this trial.

You can watch the interview here, but we want to warn you first: Sparks describes the murders in detail and uses graphic language.  Click here to see the interview.

Sparks' attorneys say their client thought his wife was trying to kill him with poison.

If Sparks is convicted, he faces the death penalty.  Dallas County District Attorney Craig Watkins has taken a personal interest in the case, and he is making a rare appearance on the prosecution team.
