Serial Rapist/Home Invader Tip Line Remains Open
by Stephanie Lucero
PLANO (CBS 11 News) ―
The search continues for a serial rapist who has terrorized women in several North Texas communities. Calls have been pouring in to police since they released a composite sketch of the attacker Thursday.
Calls to a dedicated tip line are being taken at the Plano Police Department. CBS 11 News was not allowed inside the call center and officials say even police officers not involved in the case have no access.
The goal is to catch the man linked to at least 19 sexual assault/home invasions that have taken place across North Texas, since May of 2005.
The suspect is described as a black male, 2030 years old, standing 6'0", and very muscular.
Most of the man's victims lived in first-floor apartments. The suspect has been extremely violent during some of the attacks. One person was killed during a Plano home invasion.
Detectives told CBS 11 News they are very encouraged by the number of leads that have come into the tip line. "We're receiving steady tips as we speak. We have investigators fielding those calls," said Andrae Smith, Plano Police Department. "The calls are very encouraging. There are some strong leads, and each and every last one of them we're following up on."
Anyone with information about the sexual assaults or home invasions is asked to call the tip line at 972-941-2148. The number will be manned until midnight Friday night and remain open for calls.
As of 10:30 Friday morning police said they had received more than 80 tips that they consider to be credible.
