Chesapeake Energy Halting Development Of Shale.TV
FORT WORTH (CBS 11 / TXA 21) ―
Officials with the Chesapeake Energy Corporation announced Monday that they have halted the development of www.shale.tv.
The enterprise was to be an online educational program produced Monday through Friday evenings that would have included a live talk show, with guests and industry experts discussing a variety of topics about the production of natural gas in the Barnett Shale.
Last week Chesapeake had reportedly pushed back the launch date for Shale.TV from September until October 27.
Monday the company released a statement that said in part, "We truly regret having to make this tough decision. But we know, given today's economic challenges faced by our country and industry, it is the right decision as we focus our time and resources on exploration and production activities."
Several former CBS 11 News journalists were to be a part of Shale.TV including, news anchor Tracy Rowlett, producer John Sparks and reporter Mark Johnson.
Officials with Chesapeake said the halt of the project does not diminish their belief in, "the need for such in-depth programming."
In July, Julie H. Wilson, Vice President of Corporate Development at Chesapeake, said, ""This is not a corporate promotion or public relations initiative. We have heard repeatedly and consistently from residents, critics, supporters, lessors, city staff, government officials, and civic leaders about the lack of consumer-friendly educational information available to the public about issues and opportunities related to natural gas drilling, production, and pipelines, particularly as they relate to an urban environment.''
Chesapeake officials say they will now focus their resources and activities on natural gas exploration and production in their Barnett, Haynesville, Fayetteville, and Marcellus shale gas plays.
