Residents Still Unsure Why Shock Coming From Tub

Arezow Doost
WHITE SETTLEMENT (CBS 11 / TXA 21) ― Don't shower... That's what the fire department in White Settlement has been telling some people living in an apartment complex.

Tenants at the Legacy Apartments just west of Fort Worth say they've been getting 'shocked' every time they take a shower or bath.

Electricians are still trying to pinpoint the problem.  They were at the complex Thursday, going building to building and checking showers.

So far nobody has any idea where the problem is coming from.

Some people living in the complex tell CBS 11 they've been complaining for months.  Finally, they say someone listened.

For two days electricians have been trying to figure why people taking a shower or bath at this apartment complex are getting shocked.

Jason Perritt lived at Legacy Apartments for about a month.  He says he was forced to move his family after they kept getting shocked by electricity in the shower.

"I originally noticed it when my 2-year-old was taking a bath and he was playing and all of sudden he was like ow! ow!"

Perritt broke his lease and says he is now being sued by the apartment complex for thousands of dollars.

"I'm not going to live somewhere my kids are going to get electrocuted; my 5-year-old wouldn't even get in the bathtub."

It was a complaint from a tenant which got the city's attention.

An inspector detected a low voltage of electricity flowing through the shower and told the apartment management to immediately fix the problem.

"At this point we don't have any intention of giving them a citation, we want the problem fixed and will speak about that at a later time" says White Settlement Building Inspector Kyle Reeves.

The property manager says they are not suing anybody as far as she knows -- she was checking with the owners, but they are not commenting.

She would also not comment on anything else including how long this has been a problem.
