Shots Fired Near CBS11 Reporter During Live Report
FORT WORTH (CBS 11 News) ―
Shots fired behind a CBS 11 reporter were caught on tape.
Katherine Blake was reporting on
this story last night when police say a man angry about his friend's car being towed open fire.
Ole Whitworth, the tow truck driver, said he was worried about her and the television crew because the gunshots were headed in their direction.
One of the gunshots can be heard during the end of her
live report. The tow truck can be seen speeding behind her on television.
Whitworth said he had just jacked up a car that was illegally parked at the Willow Glen Apartments in south Fort Worth. A man came outside in his underwear and told the driver not to take the car.
When the wrecker started to leave with the car in tow, the upset man allegedly opened fire two or three times.
Whitworth said the shooter then got in another car and followed him to a gas station on Sycamore School Road at I-35 and shot at him six or seven more times.
"I didn't even realize ya'll were there at that point. When I got and seen the bright lights, the first thing that came in my head is, 'I hope he didn't shoot ya'll by accident trying to shoot me.' Ya'll were so close to where I was coming through with him pointing the gun, he could have shot anybody," he said.
Fort Worth Police will review the tape of the live report for evidence. They have the license plate numbers of the cars used in the shooting, but they have not identified any suspects yet.
