States Gives Six Flags Permission To Sell Alcohol
ARLINGTON (CBS 11 / TXA 21) ―
The state gave the green light to allow the sale of alcohol at Six Flags over Texas in Arlington.
Six Flags opens its gates for the new season in about six weeks.
When it does, adults may be able to buy alcohol at six different locations inside the park.
Park officials began informing the public about their desire to get a liquor license about a year ago.
Immediately some opposition groups formed. One Bedford man gathered more than 1,200 signatures in an effort to block the move.
But Friday the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission announced that administrative judge Tanya Cooper issued a ruling recommending that the liquor license be granted.
Opponents still have 15 days to appeal the ruling. The final decision will be made by the TABC Administrator.
Arlington Mayor Robert Cluck says he's disappointed with the ruling. He says he will consult with the city's legal staff to discuss what if any action Arlington will take.
As for the park itself, spokesperson Sharon Parker said the park is pleased with the ruling. She says this is a service many of guests have requested.
The liquor license would also allow Six Flags to sell alcohol at Hurricane Harbor.
