Six Flags Now Serving Beer

ARLINGTON (CBS 11 / TXA 21) ― Six Flags has added a new attraction to its lineup, beer.

Starting this weekend beer is now being sold at the Arlington theme park.  And although you can now buy it there, the park has rules in place to keep it from being a problem.

The park says there will be no beer sales before noon or 2 hours before the park closes.  And patrons can only drink in the area where they bought it.

Six Flags spokeswoman Sharon Parker explains the consequences of not following the rules.  "if anyone does walk outside of the restaurant location, then they will be asked to leave the park."

The park also has a mixed beverage permit, but Parker explains it will only be for private events when requested.

The company has allowed drinking at other parks, and reports say they have never had a violation.

Some Arlington residents, including Mayor Robert Cluck were not pleased with the plan.

Jacob Biner says the move isn't safe.  "I just don't think it's a great idea. There are too many kids around."

Others feel it is a smart business move, especially with recent news of Six Flags' parent company's shaky financial situation.

Beer sales will begin at Hurricane Harbor when it opens for the season May 16.
