Family Upset Over Man Skinning Game In His Yard
LEWISVILLE (CBS 11 / TXA 21) ―
A Lewisville family is angry that their neighbor is skinning game animals in their back yard.
"I don't want to see it. I don't want to see it at all," Frank Hlatky said. "You can't get rid of that stench."
Santos Garcia is a long-time hunter and says he's been processing meat in his back yard for years.
"I would say 80 to 90 percent of the times we bring the deer back, and we take care of it here, and we put it in the freezer," Garcia said.
Sunday, Lewisville police went to Garcia's house to investigate. City animal control and code enforcement officers went Monday.
Texas game wardens say hunters are asked not to offend the non-hunting public, but in this case they say Garcia has done nothing illegal.
"The person that shot the animal has the right to process their own animal after they shoot it," said Texas Game Warden Daron Blackerby.
The dispute between the two families doesn't appear to be ending any time soon.
"I don't feel that in a civilized community as close as we are - there's not 50 feet from my back door to his back door - that any civilized family should have to witness that," Hlatky continued.
The Hladkys say they may just give up and move.
