Elderly Man Under Investigation For Keying Cars
SOUTHLAKE (CBS 11 / TXA 21) ―
Southlake police say 72-year-old James Jeppe turned himself into authorities Friday after police released surveillance video showing a man keying a Hummer. Police say several people recognized the man in the video as Jeppe.
The 2008 Hummer Jeppe is accused of keying had a motion-activated video surveillance system. The video clearly shows a man scratching two large crosses in the paint. The Hummer was parked in the Carroll Senior High School student lot.
Jeppe lives in an upscale neighborhood where he serves on the board of his homeowners association. Neighbors describe him in that role as short fused and heavy handed.
"He's been strange since he moved in seven years ago. We've always had problems with him," said a neighbor who did not want to be identified. "He would call the cops on our dog."
The man thinks Jeppe keyed his truck last year after a disagreement over HOA rules. "I thought it was one of the kids in the neighborhood, but obviously with this event
I'm a hundred percent certain I know who it is now."
Jeppe was released on a $1000 bond. Police are still investigating if Jeppe is involved in other Hummer vandalism incidents. In a press release, Southlake Police detectives said he cited frustration over financial stress.
