State Fair's Midway Could Stay Open All Summer

DALLAS (CBS 11 / TXA 21) ― The City of Dallas wants to cash in on the Cotton Bowl's name.

Wednesday, the city council approved a proposal to lease the naming rights of the Cotton Bowl.

Officials are hoping a deal could be worth up to $10 million over ten years. "The money will be used for incentives to bring more games to the Cotton Bowl," said Frank J. Librio, a spokesperson for the city.

One of those incentives could include keeping the fair's midway open during summer months. Money from leasing the stadium name would be shared with the State Fair of Texas Corporation.

The "Summer Place Park" would feature two new rides and other scaled-down, fair-style attractions in June and July. The park would close in August to start setting up for the fair in September.

Officials estimate the park would bring in about $2 million and create 200 – 300 new jobs.

The ticket cost would be set at $29.95, according to officials, and would include entrance to the midway and all Fair Park museums.

If approved, the park would open around 2010.
