Recorded Conversations With Woman, Alleged Killer

CARROLLTON (CBS 11 / TXA 21) ― CBS 11 News has obtained a recorded phone conversation between Brent Stephens and his ex-wife Denise, the McKinney mother he's accused of beating to death with a baseball bat.

Denise Stephens' family says she lived in fear. So when her ex-husband called her, she wanted others to know she could be in danger.

The recording was made in January - the day after her husband broke into her house and slashed her tires.

The following paragraphs are excerpts from a transcript of the tape:

Denise Stephens: I will not talk to you.
Brent Stephens: Well you need to.
Denise: No, I don't need to. There's nothing you need to say that I need to hear - that you can't tell me right now. After everything you've been doing to me, you want me to meet you. I don't think so.

In the next excerpt Denise asked her ex-husband if he planned to hire a hit man to kill her or her boyfriend, who name is Al.

Denise: So are you going to put a hit man on me, try and kill me?
Brent: No, not you.
Denise: If you think you're going to kill Al, we're not afraid of you Brent.
Brent: I didn't ask if you're afraid of me.
Denise: So what is it, are you going to kill Al now? We're divorced, Brent. Get over it.

The conversation continued.

Brent: I know some very, very bad people, Denise.
Denise: So what's your point? You want me to get back together with you? Like I would want anything to do with you right now.

Police say Brent stalked his ex-wife for months.

Brent: The game is escalated. I'm escalating it. I'm not going to allow you to have that kind of happiness in your life. You're denied.
Denise: Oh, I'm denied to fall in love, huh?

Denise's attorney said she made these recording to show that she was afraid of her ex-husband. Now her lawyer plans to turn them over to police for Brent's criminal case.
