Police Recover Stolen Gasoline At Dallas Property

DALLAS (CBS 11 News) ―

A police sting operation has led to the discovery of more than 1,000 gallons of stolen gasoline at a North Texas house.

The house is located in the 12000 block of Garden Grove Road in Pleasant Grove.

In all, some 1,800 gallons of gasoline was recovered by officials; at $4/gallon that's more than $7,000 worth of gas.

As neighbors drove by they saw drums filled with gasoline near a mobile home. "It bothers me a lot, especially from somebody like that right there," said neighbor Rick Tom. "Anybody that would steal gas is no good."

Police say the gas was stolen from Coastal Transport out of San Antonio. Private investigators, hired by the company, discovered one of its drivers siphoning gas. Police say the company even caught the employee on tape.

"What I'm to understand, they were supposed to make a delivery in Irving last night," explained Irving Police Sgt. H.L. Ratcliff. "Instead they pumped the gas into these different containers."

Investigators say the containers ended up at the property on Garden Grove Road. Friday afternoon crews spent hours pumping the gas back into a transport truck.

With the private investigator tape and recovery of the stolen gas, police are now looking to arrest the Coastal Transport employee. "Surely he would know that somehow they're gonna miss that much gasoline," Ratcliff said.

Hazardous materials workers have been on the property and after testing the air and soil quality have declared the property safe.

No injuries were reported.
