Woman Mourns Loss Of Stolen Wedding Rings

FORT WORTH (CBS 11 News) ― Edith Abney always planned on being buried one day with her wedding rings. But that dream was shattered for the North Texas widower.

Abney just moved into her south Fort Worth apartment three weeks ago. She needed a place she could afford on a limited income.

She left her apartment around noon Monday to go to lunch with her brother-in-law. When the two 60-year-olds returned about an hour later, Abney's front door was kicked in and three guys were inside rummaging through her belongings.

The thieves took off through the patio door. Abney's brother-in- law managed to tackle one of the men, but he still got away. Back inside, Abney realized the wedding ring set her late husband gave her in 1967 had been stolen off her dresser.

She said she had to cut the rings off her hand after her husband died 10 years ago from liver cancer because the rings were cutting off her circulation.

"It's heartbreaking. I was married 32 years when he passed away," said Abney. "It's the type of gift you don't want to get rid of. You normally pass them down, but I wanted to be buried with mine because I married him for better, for worse, 'til death to us part."

Abney said the three thieves were all thin men between 18 and 22-years-old. They were all wearing dark blue hooded sweatshirts with white t-shirts underneath. They all had their hair braided. Anyone with information is asked to call Fort Worth Police.
